First things first

Once Mac OS X Tiger (here on in referred to as OS X) has been installed and a username and password chosen click on Restart. Once your computer has restarted you should be taken through the rest of the Installation process.

Six elements that make up the initial OS X environment are:-

1. The Apple Menu (uppermost left of screen)
2. The Menu Bar (uppermost of screen)
3. Windows
4. Disk Icons (top right of Desktop)
5. The Dock (bottom of screen)
6. Desktop

One thing you might immediately notice is that the Desktop is pretty much clutter free of icons and the only icon that appears on the Desktop is the Disk Icon(s) such as the Mac Hard Disk, CD/DVD Drive, USB Flash Drive and so on. This is IMHO a refreshing change as the icons for Finder, Dashboard, Mail, Safari and so on are all neatly laid-out on the bottom of the screen in what is known as The Dock.

Clicking once on one of the icons launches that particular application or program. Note that double clicking is not required.
